Structured teaching is a philosophy developed by the University of North Carolina, Division TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication Handicapped Children). Although this was developed for persons with Autism, it’s a strategy that works for special education students with all sorts of disabilities. Work task activities are a huge part of this approach. Setting up your classroom with work tasks and a place to complete them is the beginning of this awesome new approach. Come learn how one classroom at Harper Park has implemented this structured teaching approach with numerous work tasks. Learn how the Occupational Therapist and Assistive Technology Trainer collaborated with the staff to develop and launch this project.
